MORE than 40 golfers dodged the showers at a charity competition at Taunton's Vivary Park Golf Course.

The annual Taunton Round Table event raised funds to take 400 disabled and disadvantaged children to Longleat Safari Park.

Overall winner was Ryan Walters, with spot prizes for nearest the pin and longest drive going to Kevin Smith and Simon Evans, while shortest drive went to Andy Worsdale, who hit his ball minus 14 feet after driving it into a tree.

Russell Haworth, chairman of Taunton Round Table, said: "It was great to see the local business community come together to help raise funds for local causes, despite the weather.

"It was an afternoon to be really proud of and highlights the work that Round Table does in and around Taunton."

Winner Ryan Walters said: "The course was in great condition, one of the best I’ve played on this year and it’s great to be able to support local charities with such a fun and informal event."
