BUS operators have decided to restore park and ride services from a site where travellers have set up an encampment.

Buses of Somerset say they will run services as normal despite the travellers remaining on the Gateway park and ride site at Ruishton, on the edge of Taunton.

They have been there with caravans and other vehicles since last week.

Services were scrapped on Friday and there was severe disruption for fans planning to park up and catch buses into town for the Cricket World Cup match in the town on Saturday.

A Buses of Somerset spokesman said: "Despite travellers occupying a section of the site, we have taken the decision to open Gateway as normal on Monday (June 10).

"Somerset County Council have started proceedings to have them moved on. Security will be on site. Silk Mills will also be open as normal should you not wish to use Gateway."
