A BROADBAND provider has been hit with fines and costs totalling more than £10,000 for contravening roadworks laws.

Gigaclear Ltd, of Wyndyke Furlong, Abingdon, was fined £6,667 with £2,102.17 costs and a £170 victim surcharge after pleading guilty to failing to comply with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 in Wellington on October 3 last year.

The company also admitted carrying out street works in Sampford Road, near Wellington, without giving the appropriate advance warning on the same day, for which it was fined £1,400.

Gigaclear faces a total bill of £10,339.17.
