TAUNTON Town chairman Kevin Sturmey has urged the town's public to get behind his title-chasing team.

The Peacocks are five points clear at the top of the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division South as they seek back-to-back promotions and host Farnborough on Saturday.

County Gazette readers can benefit from a two-for-one ticket offer in this Thursday's paper and Sturmey is hoping this will encourage more to flood through the gates at Wordsworth Drive.

Sturmey said: "With two home games on Saturday and Wednesday it's a massive opportunity for the Taunton public to come out and show their support for the best performing Somerset football team at present.

"We really need to start boosting the crowds even further than they are at present.

"This year has seen an increase of 50% on last season so far but it's still not enough for the brand of football and the success the club has been achieving over the last 3-4 seasons.

"As a club we are competing against two massive clubs, both ex-National League in Weymouth and Salisbury who have much bigger resources than us.

"To progress further we really need to be adding more people through the turnstiles week in week out and I urge the Taunton public to keep getting behind us like they have been and bring some more friends and family.

"This week is a perfect opportunity with the County Gazette voucher offer, we know sometimes people need a nudge with discounts so this is a perfect way to come and the support The Peacocks.

"Taunton is the county town we will keep working hard to showcase Taunton at the Viridor Stadium.

"The town is growing and will continue to grow, we are growing and we want to help keep making history for our great town. #UpThe Peacocks #TalkupTaunton."

Peacocks boss Rob Dray added: "We are the best performing side in the county, we're top of the league and this weekend is a great opportunity for people to come and see what we are all about."
