ROADWORKS on a busy main road in Taunton are set to commence tomorrow - causing delays for drivers for two weeks.

Initially, the works by Wessex Water were set to start on January 21 on the A358, Wellington New Road, but were postponed by the utility company.

Work to improve the town's water supply will begin on February 15 for up to two weeks.

The company says those dates were picked to coincide with school half-term break, where traffic should be reduced at peak times.

The work will take place on the inward-bound lane of Wellington Road near to the roundabout.

Traffic will be diverted via Silk Mills Road and the A358.

Outbound traffic will be unaffected.

Wessex Water’s Mark Floyd, who is planning the work, said: “It’s likely there will be an increase in traffic through the Galmington Trading Estate while we’re working on Wellington Road, so we’ll be liaising with Somerset Highways to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum.

“We will be installing a new pressure-relief system and flowmeter in Wellington Road that will ensure a more reliable water supply and help us to identify leaks in the future.

“Customers’ water supplies won’t be affected, but we appreciate this is a busy route in and out of Taunton and we’re sorry for any inconvenience that may be caused by this essential work.”
