MATT Renshaw is set to play county cricket at Taunton in April – but not for Somerset.
The Australian Test batsman has signed for Kent for the early part of the season, covering their opening rounds of Championship fixtures and the duration of the Royal London One-Day Cup.
His Championship debut for Kent should therefore come in Taunton, where Renshaw’s new side face Somerset from April 5-8 in the first round of Division One fixtures.
The left-hander was an instant hit on and off the field during his spell with Somerset, scoring centuries in his first two matches against Worcestershire and Yorkshire and finishing with an average of 51.30 from his 10 Championship games.
He left the door open for a return to Taunton but those prospects were ended when Somerset announced the signing of Pakistan international batsman Azhar Ali for the duration of the domestic season.
Ali replaced Renshaw as Somerset’s overseas player for the latter half of the 2018 campaign and, like Renshaw, scored a century on debut against Worcestershire.
