A SOMERSET brewery is appealing for your unwanted Christmas trees - to turn them into beer.

The Wild Beer Company is inviting people to drop off their unwanted trees this weekend.

And in return, you'll receive a free can of Wild Beer.

Joel Somerville, digital marketing lead, said: "The trees will be used as an ingredient to brew a bespoke beer.

"Brewing with pine or spruce is nothing new. The Wild Beer Company has done it themselves in the past.

"And beers made with pine needles or spruce tips were known as a cure for sailors with scurvy in the 17th and 18th Centuries as they are rich in vitamin C.

"The spruce or pine can provide some similar characters that you find in some varieties of hops."

You can drop off your unwanted Christmas trees at Westcombe Brewery, at Evercreech, near Shepton Mallet, on Saturday (January 12) between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
