VOLUNTEERS have been getting active to raise money for Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE), which equips the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital.

Donations this week are £676.25 from Carly Locke from Taunton who together with some of her colleagues ran the Glow in the Park Run on November 10, £325 from Janet Brown and Mrs E Toman of Chard, raised from a tea and cake afternoon, a further £74 from the Crafty Ladies from the sale of craft items.

£55 in 5ps from Doreen Jones of Taunton, £73.02, including £66 in 5ps from Joan Greedy and friends, £7 in 5ps from Rosemary Smith and Margaret King, £5 donation from David Jones, £2.25 in 5ps from Pauline Harrison, £23.22 from the collection pot at the newsagents in Bishop's Lydeard and £74.12 from the collection pots at Tesco Express in East Reach.

In a dedicated effort, £91.25 was raised from Caroline Luxton at a swimming event in September, despite having an injured shoulder.

School children have been involved with fundraising with £39.93 raised by the children from St Mary and St Peter Primary School in Ilton and Shepton Beauchamp Primary School who decorated a Christmas tree for the Ilminster Tree Festival.

Left at the Beacon Centre was a £780 donation from Mr and Mrs Prowse of Bridgwater, £25 from A Davies of Highbridge, £40 in 5ps from Jan Biddiscombe and friends of Creech St Michael. £16,40 in 5ps from the Causley family and from the Beacon Centre £123.06 mainly in 5ps.

This week's total is £2,430.50 bringing the overall total to £837,074.93
