SCIENCE was top of the agenda last night when scientist, author, photographer, historian and broadcaster, Adam Hart-Davis came to Taunton.

He was in town at the Temple Methodist Church, Upper High Street, Taunton, for a talk called Schrodinger's Cat: 49 Other experiments that revolutionised physics.

The evening which was originally scheduled to take place at Brendon Books in Bath Place had to be moved to this new location as it sold out.

Thanks to the move, 190 people attended the talk by Adam and had what Lionel Ward, organiser of The Eighth Taunton Literary Festival said was a fun evening.

He said: "We sold out a couple of weeks ago and in the end 190 people came a long and we even sold some tickets at the door.

"Adam was very good, he was articulate and liked to tell jokes in between his talk.

"He had a warm reception and there were some good questions at the end during the question and answer session."

Lionel explained this year's festival had gone down very well with people and will be the best attended so far.

He said: "I remember when it first started and we only had a handful of people.

"But now it has built up a following and a lot of people are coming along to the talks.

"On Sunday, we had 60 people come along to a talk by Nigel Smith about Homer. I would have been happy if 30 had come along.

"But this shows people like the variety of talks which are being put on and this is very encouraging.

"I am not thing about next year's event until after Christmas but I am delighted with the success of this year's." There are a handful of events left at this year's Literary Festival which ends on Saturday, November 24.

Paddy Ashdown cancelled his event on November 23, as he going into hospital in the next few days and there will be a substantial post operative recovery period.

He sends his apologies as he hates letting people down.

In his place another event at the same venue at the same time, Shackleton: By Endurance we Conquer by Michael Smith Further details about this and all the remaining events can be found online at tauntonliteraryfestival.co.uk
