DAFFODILS aren't normally associated with Christmas, but a company by that name is backing an appeal to businesses to help bring some festive cheer to Taunton.

Independent county councillor John Hunt has teamed up with PR company Daffodil PR & Communications to launch a campaign asking companies in the town centre to light up their windows for Christmas 2018.

Mr Hunt thanked Daffodil owners Sharon and Livvi Grant for sponsoring the Light Up Taunton initiative and meeting with businesses owners around the town.

He said: "We constantly hear people complain about the lack of Christmas lights, so I thought if our businesses in the town centre got involved and decorated their own premises, it would make the whole town look much more festive – a classic case of if everybody does a little, nobody will have to do a lot.

"What a positive impact it will make to the town to see every shop window lit up.

"Of course, many shops are so good at this already with Bath Place and Riverside always looking incredible and not forgetting the famous Christmas trees in Hammet Street.

"But there are also a lot of places that do not normally make an effort so I thought I’d try and encourage the whole town centre to join me and boost our county town."
