THE interim head teacher's strong leadership has been praised for bringing about improvements at Bishops Lydeard Church School.

A recent Ofsted inspection recognised Tracey Trood's efforts in turning things around at the school, which had previously been judged inadequate. And it says parents are pleased with the progress.

A report identifies a number of areas that still require improvement to ensure consistency across the school.

Work needs be done to ensure the quality of teaching and learning is consistently strong; pupils are sufficiently challenged in their learning and incidents of low level disruption are eliminated; improved attendance and improved outside space for the early years.

The Ofsted team found that senior and middle leaders are already benefitting from the professional development opportunities and support being provided by the Bath and Wells Multi Academy Trust.

The report adds that "the school's core values of respect, endurance and friendship permeate the school".

Mrs Trood said: "Staff, governors and the Bath and Wells Multi Academy Trust are aware of the strengths and areas for development and we are working together to continue to make improvements.

"We are all determined to deliver the highest standard of education for the children of Bishops Lydeard Church School."
