IT'S taken her 62 years, but a Somerset woman has finally scooped a £1 million prize in the Premium Bonds draw.

The winner, who has not been named, has held Premium Bonds since she was a child when they were first introduced in November 1956.

Ands she recently topped up her account to the £50,000 maximum in September.

The winning Bond number is 340NR182743.

She is the 398th winner of the top prize since Premium Bonds first came out.

While the Somerset winner is celebrating, it emerges there are more than 10,000 unclaimed Premium Bonds prizes worth more than £420,000 in the county - the oldest was won back in March 1971.

The highest prize unclaimed is £25,000 won by a man with £305 invested.

There are also a further eight prizes of £1,000 waiting to be reunited with their rightful owner.
