FROM being covered in grease and oil whilst wearing a jump suit to designing and making wedding cakes - it sounds like the stuff of a Hollywood movie, but for one Burnham woman it is the dramatic career change she has undergone.
Liz Monday, 28, has her own wedding cake making company which she runs from her home in Axbridge Close. Her day-to-day life now is a far cry from her life as a car accident repairer.
After she left school, Liz worked for her father in Highbridge repairing damaged vehicles, as well as taking care of the business whilst her father cared for her terminally ill mother.
When she learned of her mother's death she made the decision to move into a career her mother "would have liked".
Liz said that her mother used to make wedding dresses and birthday cakes, so she decided to follow suit and that is how she started making wedding cakes.
"I trained at a top company before becoming qualified," Liz said. "People liked my cakes and ever since the business has gone from strength to strength."
She says she is now looking for premises from which to run her business for her and her husband Karl, who helps deliver the cakes.
Liz is now preparing to exhibit her designs at a bridal show in Exeter next month (October) where over 130 specialists will be on hand to give out advice.
Organiser of the Real Brides Autumn show Janet Bowdler said: "Liz's company is just one of a number of interesting wedding day services on offer to visitors to the show.
"We want to help people find the perfect ingredients for their special day."
