THE INTENTIONS of a young man who was found dead outside his home on New Year's Eve after he overdosed on codeine were not clear, an inquest heard.

Kyle Hudson, 28, of Darby Way, Bishops Lydeard, was found dead underneath a caravan outside his home, where he lived with his grandparents, on December 31 last year.

Senior coroner Tony Williams read a statement from Jordan Hudson, Mr Hudson's brother, who said his brother 'seemed fine' when he saw him on December 30, 2017 and 'nothing seemed out of the ordinary' in the lead up to his death.

He said on the night before his death Mr Hudson had been spending time with a friend but had returned home to go to bed.

The inquest heard Jordan Hudson woken up by his mother at around 1.50am on December 31 after she received a call from Mr Hudson in which he asked for his brother to call him.

He said Mr Hudson's tone was 'serious' in a voicemail message he had left for him but said he was not concerned for his brother's welfare despite his lack of response when he called him back.

A post mortem report from Dr Geoffery revealed Mr Hudson had 4200mg of codeine in his system at the time of his death, which the pathologist said was more than four times over therapeutic levels.

Mr Hudson also had 22mg of alcohol in his blood at the time of his death but this was within safe levels.

The coroner then read a statement from Dr Brooks, a psychiatrist at Foundation House in Taunton who said Mr Hudson had been regularly attending appointments at the clinic as he struggled with depression and had made previous attempts at suicide.

Senior coroner Tony Williams recorded a conclusion of codeine toxicity.

When concluding the inquest he said: "On or about December 31 at 13 Darby Way, Kyle Hudson self administered what was proved to be a fatal quantity of codeine but his intentions at that time were not established."
