A SCOUT leader was given a surprise send off after years of dedicated service.
Derek Briggs' first connection with the Scouting family came when he joined the Cubs as a youngster in 1940.
Little did he know then that he would later become a Scout leader.
But he served the First North Petherton Scout group for 14 years as leader.
In October 1998, he was given a surprise send off at The Swan - and was presented with £50 as a goodbye present.
Leaders and Scouts from the troop gathered to mark the occasion.
Also on the night, Cynthia Woodland was commissioned as the new Scout leader.
Our photograph shows Mr Briggs surrounded by members of the First North Petherton Scout group, fellow leaders and supporters.
