A 21-YEAR-OLD man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released under investigation.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed this morning the man had been released after he was arrested following the death of a man in George Street at around 12.30pm on Saturday (October 20).

Police closed Dampiet House and the adjoining carpark to carry out its investigation.

The 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and the police were granted additional time to question him.

A second man, 46, was also taken into custody in connection with the murder. He was arrested on suspicion of perverting the cause of justice and has also been released under investigation.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We continue to carry out house to house enquiries and extensive forensic work so the cordon still remains in place near to Dampiet House and will for some time. 

"We are in the process of removing the cordon at the car park and passing responsibility to the car park operator. 

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious at about lunchtime in the area on Saturday, October 20."

Sedgemoor District Council confirmed that the Dampiet Street car park has now partially re-opened following the police investigation.

Some spaces remain out of bounds, but the car park is operational.

A spokesman for Sedgemoor District Council said: "Customers can now use the car park, but are requested to avoid the coned off spaces until such as time as the car park is fully back in use."
