BURNHAM-ON-SEA residents have the chance to be crowned a world champion as the World Paper Aeroplane Championships returns to the town.
The town’s High Street will turn into a makeshift runway on October 21 as hundreds of competitors get ready to launch their planes into the skies.
The winner will be whoever manages the furthest distance before landing and will receive a prize of fifty pounds.
The current course record is a staggering 34.3 metres.
Sally Raynes, event Director at Wacky Nation said “We will be expecting a few aborted take-offs, plenty of turbulence and the odd crash landing along the way.”
The free event is being provided by Burnham-on-Sea Chamber of Trade & Commerce in partnership with Sedgemoor District Council.
A spokesman from Burnham-on-Sea Chamber of Trade & Commerce said the chamber is excited for the event to come to the town.
“This is a great opportunity for people of all ages to have fun and to also have the opportunity to visit the varied shops on the High Street and surrounding streets, as well as relaxing in one of Burnham’s many cafes.”
