THERE was a great attendance last week as Chard’s Stringfellow Fair held a special day for the town’s disabled residents.

The event is organised by the fair owners Janet and Marshall Herbert, Chard town councillor Cathie Morrison and her husband Jim.

For the eighth year running the group organised the charity day.

Cathie Morrison said: “Every other year it is held in Chard or Ilminster.

“Representatives from Chard, Ilminster and Yeovil attended, aged from five years to over 60.

“The rides run at a slower speed, with low music. This event is for people that cannot access the fair on a normal day due to their disabilities.

“The rides are provided free of charge and they get a drink and candy floss to take away with them.”

The special disabled-friendly day was held last Thursday evening.

The fair then had to close its gates on Friday as Storm Callum swept across.

It reopened from 2.30pm on Saturday with a special character dress up day to celebrate Chard Carnival.

Among the VIP guests was the mayor of Chard, Cllr Garry Shortland, and the mayor of Ilminster, Cllr Julie Fowler, who was seen gleefully taken part in a round of dodgems.
