BRIDGWATER’S Warrens Bakery has suddenly closed its doors just a year after opening.

The bakery only opened in August 2017 but this week the Bridgwater, Taunton and Yeovil branches have shut with signs in the window informing customers of the situation.

The sign in the window of the Bridgwater branch on The Cornhill states: “Due to management changes we are temporarily closing our doors.

“Look out for news about our plans very soon.

“Thank you for your ongoing support.”

A spokesman for Warrens Bakery was unable to confirm whether the three stores will reopen, but said: “We aim to make some changes to our original strategy for these stores and can share more about this in coming weeks.

“As well as these changes we are launching two units at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton in the next few weeks and opening another branch in Bristol Airport pre-Christmas.”

All three of the Somerset units appear to be empty.

Warrens Bakery, which brands itself ‘The World’s oldest Cornish pasty maker having been established in 1860, teamed up with Bridgwater businessman and franchisee James Tucker to open the bakery last year.

It was opened by the then-mayor of Bridgwater Cllr Graham Granter along with representatives from Warrens Bakery on Thursday, August 17, 2017.

Warrens Bakery had been eyeing up major expansion in the South West with 20 new stores planned to open in the next five years.
