SWEET treats helped to bring in a crowd in Chard and raise much needed funds for the town’s swimming pool.

The Great Chard Bake Off was organised by passionate pool supporter Georgina Catling and held in The Choughs pub on Sunday.

The event raised £271.97 through entry fees, a raffle, and the sale of cake afterwards.

Georgina said: “It was fantastic, it was so manic on the afternoon.

“At the beginning not so many people came in so we opened up the entry time a bit longer.

“In the end we had more people come in, and lots and lots of people entered the raffle.

“It went really well in the end, especially for the first time I have organised a fundraiser like this.

“The town crier made a speech which was written by Amanda Broom of the pool committee.

“Everybody knew that we were there to support Cresta.

“Most people there were really passionate about the pool.

“It was good.

“It was the first fundraising event that we have had for the pool, and hopefully there will be some more to come.”
