BRIDGWATER dad Kevin Morris will join Somerset cricket legend Marcus Trescothick for a five-day charity cycle ride.

Taking place from October 8 to 12, the ‘Trestemonial’ Bike Ride will see former England cricketer and friends cycle from Keynsham Cricket Club, where Marcus’s career began, to Children Hospice South West’s (CHSW) hospice in St Austell, Cornwall.

Riding alongside Marcus will be Kevin Morris from Bridgwater whose family is supported by CHSW.

Kevin’s son Finley is one of just 70 children in the world known to have a rare genetic condition known as Sodium Channel Brain Disorder, or SCN2A.

It means he is unable to sit up, walk, talk, eat or drink unaided, and he needs constant, 24-hour care.

The condition has also left him with uncontrollable epilepsy and very poor eyesight.

Kevin and Finley’s mum Louise receive 12 nights of respite every year at CHSW’s Charlton Farm hospice, along with Finley’s younger brother Jett.

“It truly is a magical place,” Louise said. “Finley’s favourite thing is the hydrotherapy pool. Every time we go, it’s on the top of his list, closely followed by music therapy in the Sanctuary Room.

“He always makes new friends there and I am amazed at what he does in a day.”

Kevin will be taking part in the entire week’s challenge with Marcus, helping to raise money and awareness so that Finley and other families across the South West can spend time at one of CHSW’s three hospices in the region.
