A BRIDGWATER pensioner has appeared in court accused of a string of offences in relation to a hit and run incident in Langport where she allegedly collided with a pedestrian leaving her with serious injuries.

Sandra Townley, 70, of Fernleigh Avenue, appeared in the dock before Somerset Magistrates, sitting at Yeovil.

She was charged that on January 29 she caused serious injury to Victoria Fuller by driving dangerously on Picts Hill, just off the B3153 at Langport.

She was also charged with failing to stop after an accident and failing to report it to the police within the required 24 hours.

She was also charged with driving without due care and attention and driving not in accordance with a licence.

At the time of the incident the victim was airlifted to hospital with injuries to her leg and elbow.

The defendant did not enter any pleas to the offences and the magistrates said the case was so serious that the defendant must be sent to Taunton Crown Court to stand trial.

They adjourned all five matters until October 15 when Townley must appear before a pre trial hearing at Taunton.

In the meantime they released her on unconditional bail.
