THE ice rink is likely to be back in Taunton town centre for a month over Christmas.

The facility, which attracted more than 15,000 skaters last year, will be at the Coal Orchard Car Park from Thursday, December 6 to Sunday, January 6.

Taunton Deane Council is expected to give £10,000 sponsorship, as well as lost car park revenue of up to £12,500.

A report from Taunton Town Centre Company to the Deane's executive next Wednesday says: "We agreed there is still enough support for an ice rink in Taunton to make it worth bringing it back to the town again for a third year.

"Ideally it should be the same size as last year - 20m by 20m."

The hire for the rink is £69,200 and organisers estimate 19,600 skaters will be needed to break even.
