A SOUTH Somerset Cricket Club has been left devastated after a break in left them with a bill of more than £1,000.

Thieves struck at North Perrott Cricket Club in the early hours of August 20, laying siege to the team’s two bars.

Although they were only able to take one till with £38.95 inside, the vandals destroyed the metal shutters protecting the bar and two doors.

Adrian Hopper, club secretary, said: “It was found by a bloke who was bringing a supply of gas to the bar at around 9am, and he informed the groundsman.

“They had wrecked the shutters that come down for the bar and taken the till.

“Then, they went upstairs because there is a second bar up there, and smashed in the door but there was no money up there.

“The electric shutters that come down and close off the bar, and two doors, were destroyed.

“There was a mobile phone in the till which was used for card payments and there was some hope that they could track it using a ping, but unfortunately it was not switched on.”

The community has already rallied around to support North Perrott CC. A E Stoodley & Sons, a funeral directors in Crewkerne, has pledged £150 to the cause, and a fundraising page has already seen £645 in donations.
