A VOLUNTEER parish nurse will offer people in an area of Taunton "care, faith and healing".

St Peter's Church, in Lyngford, is about to recruit a registered nurse to work with them on a part-time basis, thanks to grant from Taunton Deane Borough Council.

A spokesman for the initiative said it will enable Taunton Christians to "demonstrate even more care for their neighbours, by enhancing Christian outreach bringing together care, faith and healing for all faiths and none".

The nurse will work alongside the church’s pastoral team and complement existing community healthcare.

The Rev Debbi Turley, vicar of St Peter's, has been working with Clare Steele, Sue Allen and Viv Henderson, from other churches in the town, to establish parish nursing ministries in Taunton.

The Taunton voluntary post will be advertised shortly and any qualified nurses interested in applying should contact the Rev Turley on 01823-617130 ahead of shortlisting in early September.
