FIRE officers reported to a kitchen blaze at an address in Sunnyside Terrace in Barrington this morning.
The alarm was raised at 10.17am and on arrival they discovered a deep fat fryer on fire which had been caused by over-heated food.
Two appliances from Ilminster and Martock attended the incident.
The fire was brought under control using one extinguisher and two hose reel jets.
Four breathing apparatus were also used and the incident had been sorted out by just after 11am.
There was slight damage to the kitchen by fire, while it also suffered 30 per cent smoke damage.
A spokesman said: "There were no smoke detectors in the premises and we have now arranged for some to be fitted. We also provided the occupants with some fire safety advice."
