YOUNG actors from Taunton joined children from almost 200 schools from around the UK to simultaneously perform Disney's Beauty and the Beast Junior in a world record attempt.

The event last month saw more than 12,500 youngsters taking part in performances across 144 locations, including Canada, Germany and Malta in an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of Records.

In the process, the members of Stagecoach Performing Arts Taunton raised £634.90 for the Children's Hospice South West.

Principal of Stagecoach Taunton Anne Garrett said: "Everyone at Stagecoach Taunton is so pleased that through an amazing event like this we can help, in a small way, with this great charity, helping children and families in such difficult times.

"We are all now holding our breath at Stagecoach Taunton while all the shows are verified and we find out if we made the world record."
