THE identity of a mystery homeless man dubbed 'Mr Sad' whose body may have lain in a tent for up to a year before being discovered has finally been confirmed.

The middle-aged man's body was found in a tent in August 2017 on the A370 near Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.

Documents including a birth certificate and driving licence were found alongside him.

However he was not officially reported missing and no-one came forward to identify him leading him to being dubbed 'Mr Sad.'

Now, following an appeal by police, relatives have finally come forward and he has been identified as Peter Thomas Harrison.

He was aged between 59 and 60 when he died and is believe to originate from the Birmingham area.

PC Andy Henderson said: "I'd like to thank all those who called in with information after seeing our appeal.

"We had struggled to track the man's next-of-kin down but we have now managed to speak to them and put them in touch with the coroner.

"We will now continue to provide them with support while the formal identification process takes place."
