THIS sickening photo shows the bloodied face of a young mother recently diagnosed with cancer after she was allegedly glassed by another woman.

Joanna Draus says she was sitting in her car when a bottle of whisky was smashed over her head in an early hours assault.

Ms Draus needed hospital treatment for cuts to her face and lips following the incident in Mitre Court, Taunton.

She had just got back from a night out with friends to help cheer her up after being told a month before that her cancer had returned.

Ms Draus, who had not been drinking, said: "The woman who attacked me was young and fit and was shouting at me.

"I had a black eye and lost lots of blood, which in my condition when I'm having chemotherapy is dangerous.

"I absolutely thought I was safe, but now I am totally devastated and lost. I thought I was going to be killed.

"I'd had a huge operation and was suffering from severe depression after the cancer came back.

"I'd started urgently again having devastating chemotherapy and this was all a huge shock for me.

"After the first cycle (of chemotherapy), I decided to give myself a little treat to chill out and I went out with some people I have known for a while."

Ms Draus was allowed home following treatment at Musgrove Park Hospital.

Police say an 18-year-old woman was arrested following the incident on Saturday, July 21, at 3.45am. She was later released and remains under investigation.

At the time, an Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: "An altercation happened after a night out involving a number of people.

"We’re keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident who may have information to help our enquiries."

Anyone able to help is asked to contact police at Taunton, quoting reference 5218162780.
