A SKATE Park in Spaxton has been cordoned offer after falling into disrepair.

The 'half pipe' skate park, located in the playing field by the village hall, has suffered damage over the years and a survey conducted by the Spaxton Village Hall Committee found the skate park was considered 'dangerous' and 'was not really being used for what it was originally intended' by residents.

It has now been cordoned off with black and yellow tape.

A spokesman for the committee said: "We have now been advised that the skate park is in an unsafe condition and we have had to isolate it so it cannot be used.

"The cost to carry out the work required to make it usable again is far too expensive and the village hall committee simply does not have the money for this.

"We are very sad to report we have therefore taken the decision to fill it in."

The committee says it is now exploring how the area could be used in a different way to benefit the community and how to make this happen.

The survey carried out in regards to the play area highlighted that apart from the condition of the skate park, residents' top priorities were to install some outdoor gym equipment and to combat the issue of dogs.

The spokesman added: "We hope there will be an opportunity to secure funding in the future so that we can enhance the play area, using residents' 'wish list' as our guide."
