NEARLY 100 new homes and an employment area could be built in Wiveliscombe if plans are approved.

The proposal has been submitted by joint applicants West of England Developments and Summerfield Developments (SW) Ltd to Taunton Deane Borough Council.

The plans would see up to 94 dwellings and105,000 sqft of mixed-use light industrial land built on land east of Sandy's Moor.

The location is included in the Deane's list of areas allocated for development but only for industrial land.

The 94 houses would be a mix of two, three and four bed properties, with off-street parking.

The plans would include 25 per cent affordable housing.

A spokesman for the applicant said: "The scheme is liable for affordable housing and this has been accommodated in the indicative mix; proposing a policy compliant 25 per cent on-site provision.

"The council will seek a tenure split of 60% social rented housing and 40 per cent intermediate housing or affordable rented on affordable housing provision of three affordable dwellings or more.

"The exact proportions of the tenure split and locations of affordable homes would be the subject of the reserved matters application based on an outline consent."

Earlier this year the applications held a public consultation.

Residents visited the community Centre on May 3 to view the plans.

The feedback was a mixed bag of concerns and support. Some agreed the housing was needed, especially for young people in the area.

Others believed the facilities would not cope with a large influx of housing.

To view or comment on the plans search application number 49/18/0045 on Taunton Deane's website.

The online consultation will run until August 17 with a target decision of October 23.
