THE author of a book documenting the history of Bridgwater's boozers is on the hunt for pictures of Burnham-on-Sea pubs for her second book.

Jane Mann from Bridgwater spent four years compiling images and information to create her first book but now she is on the search for pictures of boozers in Burnham, Highbridge and the surrounding areas for her new book.

"The first book I did has done well and I knew I wanted to do Burnham next," Jane said.

"I have worked in care home for 36 years and I often thought there is lots for women to do and not much for men.

"Men in particular often have their memories of pubs and where they used to socialise and that is why I created the first book and want to do more.

"I have had a lot of people contact me and say they would be interested in a Taunton book so that may be my next project."

Jane said she hopes to release the book in October and is looking for history buffs to volunteer their time to help her research and find pictures for the book.

"My husband Colin helped me research for the Bridgwater book but I am looking for some people to join my research team to help me," Jane said.

"Putting together a book like this isn't easy it takes a lot of time to get everything together so anyone who is happy to share any images they have and dates pubs in the area open and closed would be really appreciated."

£1 from each book sold will go to BARB Search and Rescue in Burnham, a lifesaving charity which operates two rescue hovercrafts and an inshore rescue boat in the Bridgwater Bay area.

Jane said she hopes to create more books in the future and is currently on the search for a sponsor to help her fund the project.

"Having a sponsor would make a real difference to me," Jane said.

"I create these books with all of my own money and think it would be nice if a local business would sponsor me to help pay for some of the printing costs."
