MORE people are getting involved in gardening, according to the chairman of Minehead Gardening Club.
Speaking after a record Minehead Flower Show, Sally Bainbridge said: "There are definitely more people interested in growing their own vegetables."
We decided to ask people if they agreed. Here's what they told us: Alan Gregory, of Luccombe, said: "I've been growing my own food since I got married 52 years ago.
"I had to feed the kids."
Alan added: "You do need a big garden, and plenty of time."
Jim Moles, of Porlock, said: "I grow as much as I can in the back garden.
Jim, who grows beans, courgettes, lettuces and raspberries, added: "Once you start, it becomes a habit."
Tom Roper, who lives in Minehead, said: "I used to have an allotment, but I don't have the space now.
"You need a big plot to be completely self-sufficient."
Pamela Stearn, of Minehead, said: "I always try and buy organic produce where possible.
"I would like to grow my own vegetables, but I don't have the space."
Jill Merer, of Minehead, said: "I used to grow a lot of vegetables, but the problem was there was too much.
Jill, who likes growing soft fruit, including gooseberries and raspberries, along with tomatoes and apples, added: "I always go to local greengrocers if I can."
Jenny Batho, who lives in Withypool, said: "I grow potatoes, beans, peas, lettuces, tomatoes and cucumbers.
I grow far too much, and end up giving a lot of it away, or selling it from my gate with an honesty box."
