A BRITISH athlete and former student at The King Alfred School has been inspiring students there to be as good as they can be in their chosen sports.

Runner Luke Prior, 20, spoke to students at the school in Burnham Road, Highbridge, about his journey to becoming a cross country runner.

Since leaving the school in 2016, Luke has achieved his England international vest and has represented his country both at home and in Spain.

In March, Luke was selected to join Team GB at the World Cross Championships in Kampala where he finished 80th.

He has also won gold medals in the England 5,000m competition and is ranked 13th in the UK for 10.000 metres.

Nathan Jenkins, principal of The King Alfred School, said: “It was fantastic to meet Luke and hear his story of success.

“The way he set himself challenging goals and then worked incredibly hard to achieve them will I’m sure serve him well and undoubtedly inspire current students. He has a big career ahead of him and we look forward to following his success with great pride.”
