VANDALS who left smashed bottles in a toddlers' play area have been warned they could have caused serious injuries.

Amy Hardwick only noticed the glass when her 30-month-old son, Edward, was within inches of some large shards of glass on a slide.

She had taken the youngster to the park ahead of dropping him off at the nearby toddler group.

Volunteers cleared up the glass following the incident at North Curry Playing Fields on Monday morning.

Mrs Hardwick said: "The play park was covered in glass, with drinks bottles smashed over the play equipment. It had all happened over the weekend.

"Edward was at the top of the stairs on the slide when I realised it was covered in shards of glass.

"It was all over the Multi Games Area (MUGA) as well.

"Edward had shorts on and it makes you question what would have happened if he had cut himself.

"Whoever did this needs to be told about the extent of the harm that could have been caused."

Volunteers from North Curry Playing Fields Committee arrived at the scene and cleared away the glass and posted notices warning people to be cautious.

Committee member Tony Turner said: "We had two bottles broken, one in the MUGA, the other near one of the slides.

"I spent the morning with a couple of other people cleaning it up.

"We put up notices around the site advising people to be cautious.

"Our message to whoever did is that it is very dangerous and could harm your younger brothers or sisters and other children playing there."
