A BRIDGWATER riders’ club went above and beyond to help a local autistic teenager have a prom to remember.

The Hoonigans Riders Club, which is based at The Commercial Inn, in Redgate Street, were approached by Klaiton’s family as he wanted to attend the Elmwood School prom on the back of a trike.

But the Hoonigans RC decided to go one better and provided a full biker escort right up to the door of the prom.

Club president Joey ‘Tank’ Webb said: “Klaiton’s family first got in touch via Facebook as he is a huge motorcycle fan and hoped to attend his school prom on the back on the bike.

“We did our best to muster as many local bikers as possible to have a bigger impact.

“Klaiton is a fantastic lad, entered the prom in style and has become an honorary member of the club.”

In the end, Klaiton rocked up to the prom with an escort of no less than 16 motorbikes.

Klaiton’s mum Tracy Dalton said she is grateful for what the Hoonigans have done as it made Klaiton’s day.

Joey explained that although the club had only been running for around a year, charity work was a big part of its ethos and members would be contributing to the upcoming Canoeing For A Cure fundraising in Bridgwater.

The club has around 10 members and a rigid vetting process for new recruits.

“A lot of the lads here are ex-military,” Joey said.

“There is a sense of brotherhood in the forces that is hard to replicate when you return to a ‘normal’ life.

“The club instils a lot of these values – we are about loyalty, honesty and integrity and a sense of discipline.”

The group attends a number of riders’ meets in Bridgwater, Langport, Blue Anchor, Bristol and Poole among others.

Steve Bradley, landlord of The Commercial Inn, said he was impressed with all the work the club was doing for the community.

He said: “They are a really good bunch of lads and what they did for Klaiton and the work they do for the community is fantastic.

“There is some noise when they set off but it is only brief. It is a pleasure to have them here.”
