Police arrived and told Burnham Coastguard no people had been reported missing.

Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News:

After making extensive enquiries on the beach and the seafront and getting no results both crews stood down.

A spokesman for Burnham Coastguard said they are pleased members of the public called to report their concerns.

"It was fair to say that this was a well-intended call.

"We are happy that no one was in any difficulty and the first informant did exactly the right thing in calling us.

"Better to be called and not needed than not be called for fear of being embarrassed.
"99.9 per cent of calls are because people are in difficulty or concern for others welfare.

"We thank everyone for taking the time to look out for others along our beautiful stretch of coast as it shows what a fantastic community we live in."

If you are in difficulty or are concerned for anyone along the coast call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
