A Taunton-based aid group is celebrating after delivering 300 shipments of donations to refugees.

Refugee Aid From Taunton (RAFT) a volunteer group helping to get aid to refugees displaced around Europe, Africa and Syria, have just packed and sent their 300th shipment.

RAFT, which has been running since 2015, takes unwanted donations such as clothes, food, medicine and shoes from supporters in Somerset, Devon and Dorset, and then redistribute them to refugees displaced by the current ongoing conflicts such as in Syria.

The group is made up of around 60 volunteers and is led by Federica Smith-Roberts.

She said: "This week saw our 300th shipment go out from the warehouse in Canal Road.

"It is bound for Syria via a charity group based in London and Cardiff called Anaya Aid.

"One of the regular groups of volunteers on a Wednesday are Green Days Day Care who come in with leader Tushie Tidman to help sort, pack and prepare the donations to be sent off.

"The RAFT team would love to thank them for their continued support, help and hard work in helping get vital aid out.

"RAFT are always looking for new volunteers and donations so if you think you can help please see their Facebook page or visit us in the warehouse on Canal Road."

The warehouse is open on Tuesday, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10am until 3pm.
