A MAN who cycles 30 miles to work and home every day is taking on a more ambitious challenge.

Ashley Comer plans to pedal non-stop from his home in Cotford St Luke to Land's End, Cornwall in under 16 hours.

He's setting out at 4am on Sunday, July 8, and hopes to arrive at the southern most point of Britain before 8pm the same day.

He is undertaking the marathon ride in memory of a close friend, Wendy Sherlock, who died of cancer recently.

Mr Comer wants to raise more than £1,000 for St Margaret's Hospice, which cared for her in her last days.

"I already cycle 30 miles a day to work," said Mr Comer, a coach driver with Somerset Passenger Solutions, who drives staff to Hinkley Point.

"It's around 170 miles to Land's End and the most I've cycled in one go before is 105 miles.

"But it's not so much the distance. It's the hills that slow you down."

His friend, Gary Davies, is backing him up in a car and ensuring Mr Comer eats every 45 minutes to keep his energy levels up.

He has so far raised almost £400 in sponsorship, including a donation from round the world cyclist Mark Beaumont.
