STAFF at Brean Golf Club are celebrating after they raised more than £5,000 for two charities at a celebrity golfing event.

On June 20, 23 teams put their best foot forward and showed off their skills at the golf course to raise funds for the Injured Jockeys Fund and St Margaret's Hospice.

At the end of the day a team sponsored by Town & Country Flooring won the Tom Child's Memorial Trophy after scoring 91 points.

The team was made up of ex Bristol Rovers footballer Tony Pounder, Martyn Cahill, Andrew Stephens and George Fear.

The PWC sponsored team which was made up of Matt Heal, Chris Brady and Gavin Holland and Brean captain elect Trevor Pitt were runners up with 90 points.

The final two prizes on offer went to local teams with club captain Mike Carter steering his team consisting of Dan Broom, Ian Rogers and Steve Hill to an 87 point score and fourth position. Jones Bros Builders took fifth with 85 points being scored by Wayne Barrett, Phil Hodgson and the Jones brothers Eric and Dave.

Emma Britton from BBC Radio Bristol was on hand to thank the players for raising the money and presented the teams with their the awards. Jonathan Powell, president of the Injured Jockeys Fund (IJF) also extended thanks to the golf club for hosting the event.
