DROVES of shoppers attended the opening of Bridgwater's brand new M&S Foodhall this morning (Wednesday, June 20).

The new store on the Gallagher Retail Park was officially opened at 10am by inspirational Bridgwater youngster Tayen Gilbert and store manager Andy Harris.

Young Tayen cut the ribbon with a huge smile and Bridgwater shoppers got their first trip round the new supermarket as it opened its doors for the first time.

Tayen has a genetic condition called neurofibromatosis type one. The condition is incurable and causes tumours to grow on nerves anywhere in her body.

Tumours have grown on Tayen’s optic nerves which have extended into her brain and despite chemotherapy, she has been left completely blind and epileptic.

But despite this Tayen is always seen with an infectious smile on her face.

The M&S includes the store's Click & Collect service, which means online customers will be able to have M&S.com Clothing & Home orders delivered to the store the next day, free of charge.

"Our hard-working colleagues will be on hand to make every moment special for our customers – whether they’re picking up a bouquet of flowers for a loved one, or a lunchtime treat from the M&S Food on the Move range."
