A total of 4,027 laps were completed, covering 125 miles. The Sea Squad Reviews team totted up 107 laps, more than any other group.

Swimathon co-ordinator Christine Briggs said: "It was a lovely evening attended by the Mayor of Taunton Deane Councillor Hazel Prior-Sankey and her consort Adrian Prior-Sankey.

"The mayor kindly presented all the trophies to the winning teams and the cheques to the charities we supported this year. She congratulated all the swimmers and the Soroptimists on a fantastic achievement.

This year was our 30th Swimathon and the final amount raised was just over £20,100 and this was divided between three charities.

"St Margaret's Hospice received just over £10,000 and the Taunton Foodbank and Mind in Taunton and West Somerset received just over £5,000 each.

"This brings the grand total raised over the last 30 years to £631,200 which has all been given to 78 local charities."
