A MOTORCYCLIST has died following a road traffic collision.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following the fatal crash on Withycombe Hill, near Combwich.

The tragic incident happened at 5.25pm yesterday (Wednesday, April 25) and involved a motorcycle and a 4x4 vehicle.

A spokesman for the South Western Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 5.17pm to reports of a road traffic collision.

"We attended with two rapid response vehicles, an ambulance, an operations officer and air ambulance."

The man on the motorcycle was sadly declared dead at the scene.

The road was reopened at 9.30pm following a thorough examination by specialist collision investigators.

One resident who lives along the road and witnessed the aftermath of the crash praised the work of the emergency services.

"There was a guy from Hinkley C called Russell Barclay directing traffic, he was brilliant, and two men from G4S helped give CPR until the ambulance arrived," the witness said. "They worked tremendously."

"The police had six vehicles here too and managed to get the road open again within four hours."
