A ONE week old fox cub that was rescued from a dog is recovering well at Secret World Wildlife Rescue.

The cub, named Marion, is being given round the clock care by staff at the wildlife centre in East Huntspill.

A member of the public took Marion to the vets after she was found by a dog, cowering next to a shed in a garden in Clevedon.

When she was found, Marion was just one week old and her eyes were not yet open.

One of Secret World’s volunteer response drivers collected the cub from the practice and brought it to the charity’s centre for rehabilitation.

Marion is continuing to build up her strength and has begun to make progress thanks to the charity's animal carers.

Dan Bryant, animal carer at Secret World, said: “Two weeks on she’s making great progress. Her eyes have just opened and she is feeding well, enthusiastically guzzling the milk from the bottle and making contented squeaks.

“Marion is quite a late baby. We usually see fox cubs born around March, so to have one in April is unusual.

“The cub will continue to be bottle-fed until she puts on a bit more weight.

"Once off the bottle, she will be then fed with meat and milk until she is strong enough to feed by herself. We’ll then assess her and decide what the next step will be.

“We have a number of fox cubs currently being cared for on site, but they are older than Marion so we’ve not yet decided whether she will join them.”

In 2017, Secret World Wildlife Rescue, one of the leading animal rescue charities in the South West, rescued 78 foxes.

Secret World provides a 365-days a year service to rescue sick, injured or orphaned wildlife.
