CUSTOMERS have been shocked to hear that a cafe where parents could enjoy a cuppa while their children played has closed.

The owners of Shakees Play Cafe, in Corfield Hall, Magdalene Street, Taunton, announced their decision on Facebook yesterday (Monday).

The seven-days-a-week venue off the town centre boasted a soft play area for children aged six and under.

Adults were able to relax on comfortable leather seating and enjoy light snacks and refreshments.

In an announcement on Facebook, the owners said: "It is with a heavy heart that today (Monday) we have made the difficult decision to close the doors to Shakees for the last time.

"We would like to thank you all for your custom over the last 7 years. It's been a lot of fun and a great privilege to provide you with a happy place to create childhood memories.

"We have been truly blessed to have met such wonderful customers (big & small) whom we can now count as friends.

"Our thanks also goes to the wonderful staff, past and present, that have served alongside us - you are all fabulous.

"We bid you all farewell and wish you all the very best for the future. Lots of love from all at Shakees XXXX.
