A SHELTER on the seafront at Burnham-on-Sea has been demolished.
Sedgemoor District Council said the ‘underused’ shelter, on the Esplanade, with ‘limited views’, was in a relatively poor state of repair and had been taken down.
A council spokesman said a survey showed the shelter required around £4,000 of remedial work if it was to be kept.
“It has been entirely removed and the area will be returned to grass,” he said.
“This will allow our limited resources to refurbish other shelters situated along the South Esplanade with sea views.
“Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge Town Council were consulted and in agreement.”
The refurbishment works will be carried out in the next few weeks.
