Falmouth Town 3, Newquay 0

Falmouth Town produced a strong second-half showing to beat Newquay and record their 21st league win of an impressive season at Bickland Park on Saturday.

After a goalless first half, Town stepped up after the break with Jordan Annear, James Ward and Olly Walker scoring as the Ambers eventually won comfortably.

It was the visitors who had the chance to lead on six minutes when a free-kick wasn't cleared and Danny O'Hagon forced a brilliant reaction save out of Ryan Barnes from point-blank range.

Town's closest opportunity of an otherwise uneventful half came via a Luke Brabyn long throw which was flicked towards Nixon, whose diving header at goal was on target but comfortable for Newquay goalkeeper Paul Clarke.

The game livened up a few minutes before half-time when Nixon pounced on a loose ball and passed to Rob Wearne on the left-hand side, who cut in and sent a shot at goal which Clarke tipped over the bar.

The visitors passed up a brilliant chance to go ahead ten minutes after half-time when Jack Bray-Evans played a one-two with Louis Price to set himself in on goal, but he rushed his effort and Barnes gathered.

That miss proved to be a big moment two minutes later when Annear put the hosts in front from the penalty spot after he was brought down in the box.

Town wasted no time in doubling their lead, with another Brabyn long throw into the box this time met by Ward, whose header dropped in off the underside of the crossbar just three minutes after Annear's strike.

Falmouth put the game out of sight in the 73rd minute after Annear did well to get a cross to Brabyn at the six-yard box, whose effort was blocked but only as far as Walker who hammered the ball in from ten yards.

Town had the ball in the net a fourth time when Jack Webber found the net from 20 yards but the whistle had already gone, while Price spurned the chance to grab a consolation with ten minutes left, firing high and wide inside the box.

Falmouth: R Barnes, T Annear, O Moody (D Blizzard 50), J Ward, J Cooper (c), R Martt, L Brabyn, J Webber, R Wearne (H Clarke 62), J Annear, T Nixon (O Walker 58).
