RESIDENTS in a Burnham-on-Sea care home are enjoying a range of new facilities thanks to a £500,000 refurbishment.

Tudor Lodge Care Home on Brightstowe Road has undergone extensive refurbishment works over the last year and now has six new wet rooms and a new communal bathroom which are all designed for residents with different mobility levels.

The home also has a new staff area and medic store as well as a 13 person lift over three floors and an extra room so they can house up to 28 residents.

Chris Arnold, director of Tudor Lodge, said: “We are delighted with the outcome of our recent refurbishment which has been extremely well received by our residents and which we hope will help to ensure that we are in a position to offer quality care for years to come."

The care home was bought by David and Judy Arnold in 1995 and only had space for 18 residents.

In 1998 the Arnold's added an extension to the home which meant it had space for 27 residents.

David and Judy handed over management of the home to their son, Chris, who said he hopes the home will have a bright future.

"Over the years we have developed close links with the local community and our residents are frequent visitors to the Princess Theatre and Arts Centre," Chris said.

"We are also fortunate to have visits from Octopus Nursery and St Andrews school, which the residents really enjoy.

"We gained accreditation in the ‘Gold Standards Framework’ in 2014 and were overwhelmed to receive ‘platinum’ status when we were re-accredited last year despite all the building work.

"We hope to continue to provide high quality care in a homely atmosphere for many years to come, but at 9 and 1 it will be a while before the next generation will be ready to take over."
