A HERON which was found to be severely underweight has been saved from starvation by Secret World Wildlife Rescue.

The large bird was found by two members of the public while out walking.

They took it back to their kitchen and called staff at Secret World.

When carers from the wildlife charity arrived they found the bird was severely underweight and very weak.

Carer Sarah Tingvoll put the bird in a casualty pen with a heat lamp and fed it some fish and to her surprise the heron took it.

Sarah said: “It’s been a busy start to the year for Secret World.

"Many animals have struggled to stay alive during the winter, but thankfully caring members of the public have saved many of them by calling us.

"There’s a happy ending for this heron as he’s expected to make a full recovery.”

A spokesman for Secret World said the heron is now much stronger after being looked after by Secret World staff and he will be released back to where he was found once he is well enough.
