Fancy following in the footsteps of Poldark or Daphne du Maurier? Or hearing about tales of derring-do, Packet ships and piracy? What about a speed dating walk?

The 2018 Falmouth Spring Festival walks programme is the most varied yet, with a selection of professional guided walks across a variety of themes. The walks, co-ordinated by Walkitcornwall, will be taking place throughout the Falmouth BID funded two-week festival.

If you’re interested in Falmouth’s rich heritage and open spaces, there are loads of walks to choose, including Through Falmouth Town: the walk-through of Falmouth’s 350-year history, and the much-loved Poldark’s Falmouth walk. There will also be some wildlife walks along the Helford River and Frenchman’s Creek.

There are several new walks and themes for 2018. Oranges, Lemons & Foxes will lead people on an exploration of Falmouth’s historic and award-winning gardens; Tree Identification is for all the dendrologists out there; experts at the University of Exeter will be opening up the historic gardens on a free Tour of Penryn Campus gardens and Tremough House walk, while in the town, Paul Simmons of WalkitCornwall will be organising Falmouth’s first ever speed dating walk called Lovin’ Falmouth.

Funded and organised by the Falmouth Business Improvement District (BID) and sponsored by the University of Exeter, the Falmouth Spring Festival is the first main event on the Falmouth events calendar. Celebrating Falmouth’s coast and open spaces through a host of music, dance, sporting events, walks and ‘spring clean’ activities, the festival takes place at numerous venues across the town.

The festival runs from March 15 to April 2 and full details of all the walks, and everything else planned, can be found at falmouth.co.uk.
